Mexican artist Gabriel Dawe creates site-specific installations that explore the connection between fashion and architecture, and how they relate to the human need for shelter in all its shapes and forms. Created a rainbow sculpture from 60 miles of thread. Entitled “Plexus A1”, the sculpture forms part of the “Wonder” exhibition at the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery, which explores humans’ connection to nature. Says Dawe about the title of his work.
“It refers to the connection of the body with its environment, but it also relates directly to the intricate network of threads forming the installation itself, and to the inherent tension in the thread, vibrating with an almost tangible luminosity.”
